Perimeter, Volume and Area D.L.O.

 DLO Template:

We are learning to calculate

the perimeter, area and volume of shapes:

Our task:

Make two different shapes, using the unifix cubes, that have a volume of:

  1.  36 cm cubed

(Insert photos of your two different shapes)

  1.  What is the perimeter of each shape?

         No.1= 14cm        No.2= 18cm.

  1.  What is the area of the bottom level of each shape?

          No.1= 12cm squared      No.2= 18cm squared.

What formula can we use to work out:

Perimeter: 2 (L + W)

Area: L x W

Volume: L x W x H

Persuasive Writing Technique D.L.O

We have been learning about the different techniques to use in persuasive writing, which are alliteration, facts, opinion, repetition, emotive language, statistics and the rule of three.

Here is my work.

The hardest example for my group to find was the repetition. Do you agree with my examples?

Marble Run DLO.

I enjoyed this because it was better than just doing normal school work and it was fun competing against other groups from my class.

I found this challenging because the marble run kept falling apart and we had to keep sticking it back together.

Forces and Motion Rotation Day.

Here is my work explaining what activities and what I did at each station on the rotations day.

What I found hard was trying to make the car track and it breaking so many times, but in the end my group finally finished and it worked pretty well.

How Turtles Use Magnetic Feilds.

Today we read about magnetism and magnetite, and here is my work on explaining why turtles use magnetism.

Narrative Writing.

 Nowhere To Run.

I approached slowly, the dark building on the left, where I heard a thud rush past me. I saw some old mossy steps ahead and rushed up them prepared for anything to happen. I peeked around the corner of the walls.  There I saw some tall, ancient stone doors. I strode up to them and pushed my weight against them and they slowly creaked open. I was astonished by what I saw in front of me. Pacing through the tall doorway, I saw something move. Not sure what it was, I was aware of what might happen. The doors closed behind me with a crash. I ran back to try and open them but they wouldn't move.

“Who's there?” I demanded.  There was no response.

I asked again “who's there?” There was still no response.

After waiting for about a minute something jerked me forward, I felt my whole world falling. Crash, I landed on the ground. Stumbling to my feet I glanced around, but all I could see was the darkness. I just sat against the wall with tears filling my eyes.

“I’m never going to get out of here,” I said to myself. I stood up and started walking with my hands in front of me, so I wouldn’t crash into anything.

“Ouch” I kicked my toe on something. I knelt down to try and figure out what it was.  I think they are steps.  “This must have been what I fell down earlier,” I said to myself.

I sprinted up the stairs, my feet going clic, clac, clic. When I got to the top something brushed past my leg. “Ahhhhh” I screamed. “Who-whos  the-there?” I asked.

I heard whispers coming from behind me which made me feel dizzy and made my heart beat 100 miles per hour. I tried to turn around but only then I realised that my whole body was frozen with fear.  I couldn’t even move my mouth to talk. When I unfroze I flung my body forward and started running. I ran down the stairs across the hallway and into a small room. By now my eyes have adjusted to the dark. I ran my hands quickly across the walls to see if there were any trap doors but it turns out not all ancient buildings have them. As I heard the mysterious creature striding towards me I started running again, my arms and legs shaking, but I knew I had to keep going. I was running straight to a dead end but didn’t know it at the time, only as I got closer I realised….

Forces and Motion D.L.O

Last week, on Wednesday, we had a forces and motion day-Topana and Neke. On this day we contribute our ideas and learnt new things about different forces and motion. We had to go to different stations and each station had something different to the rest of them. We all went to three different stations.

After that, we created a D.L.O about what stations we had been to and what we had done at each station. My D.L.O is embedded below.

My group focused and tried hard to complete all of the tasks that were set for us in our rotations. On this rotation day it was fun to try and complete all of the experiments. It would be great if you could leave a helpful, positive and thoughtful comment.

Digital Technology Matariki Project - Bluebots and QR Codes.

For Matariki we learnt about the stars. We made a special Bluebot mat. On the mat we had QR codes and when you scanned them you learnt about the stars. We taught other kids how to code the blue bots to get to the QR codes. We learnt that there are nine stars in the Matariki cluster and each star has a special name and something they are connected to like the weather, food or water.

T - Shaped Reading.

W.A.L.T: We are learning to read and summarise ideas about journeys.

T-Shaped Reading Unit- Journeys
Write answers to these questions after you have read each text.

These words may help you to reflect on kinds of journeys:  journey, quest, exploration, voyage, trip, trek, excursion, expedition, pilgrimage, mission.

What kind of journey
has taken place?
Explain.
What was the
purpose of this
Journey?
What challenges did
the character face?
Kensuke’s Kingdom.
A voyage because it
is a long journey by
sea.

To experience what it
would be like to live
on a boat and travel
the world.
Facing the big storms
while traveling on the
sailboat.
Washing up on an
island and trying to
find somewhere to
sleep, food and water.
Iris and Dogstar.
This journey is also a
voyage because it
takes days to get
from place to place
by water.
To go fishing and
travel to Noumea
and spend time
with their family.
They didn't get much
sleep. The rough seas
and getting sea sick.
Not so normal.
It is a mission
because it is
travelling from planet
to planet.
To travel to Earth and
check the resources.

A cow ate Normals
spaceship.
At the end of the story
Normal got squashed.
People were being
mean to him about his
name.
Underground Explorers.
This journey is an
exploration.
To go underground
and prove that the
bulmer cavern is
bigger than they
thought.
Sleeping in small
spaces and being in
the cold.

How To Make A Quality Blog Post

What a quality blog post should look like,

First you need to have something to put on your blog like a peace of writing or a how to video.

Next you need to put the work onto a new blog post and explain why you had to do this piece of work and a little but about what you have done.

Once you have done that you should put quality labels on it, if it was writing work you could put Writing and you could also put what term you were in like term 2 2020.

When you feel confident that you have made a quality blog post then you should check it with your teacher and post it on your blog.

Lockdown Writing

To Mrs Robbins, This time last month I would have been playing with my friends and going to
school but instead of doing all of the fun things I normally do I have just been stuck at home.
I usually wake up early but now I sleep in until 8 o'clock.

I am finding it challenging to stay at home and not see anyone except for my mum and dad.
It has surprised me that staying home makes doing work a lot harder.

The technology that has helped me the most of the lock down is my iPod because I can
face time my friends and it keeps me entertained. The best book that i have read would be
The World's Worst Children, it has a good layout and it is interesting.
The best movie that I have watched over this period of time is Life of the Party.
I enjoyed it because it was funny.

I have learned two new skills on my trampoline which are a front handspring and an aerial.

The unique family activities I did with my mum and dad were going to the beach and doing
some photography. We also toasted marshmallows over an outside fire and looked for stars and
satellites.

Gratitude Poem.

Room 7 had to make a poem about gratitude and what they are thankful for. First we had to do a plan and once we had finished the plan we could start our poem. Here is mine.

 I am thankful for...

 Freedom and basic human rights,

Being able to glide through the wind enjoying the fresh air riding my scooter,

Knowing my maths strategies so I can challenge myself to solve harder maths equations,

Living in a region where the air is clean and we can still swim in the rivers and lakes,

The mildly spicy and creamy taste of butter chicken,

Having all of my senses that allow me to touch, see, smell, taste and hear,

Learning how to swim well, And having a Mum and Dad that love me.

 I am thankful.
